Dear Friends,

Greetings from the Ivory Coast, West Africa!  We trust that you are enjoying the warmer weather of the summer months.  Here, our rainy season is starting to let up a little bit – less rain means less mud.

We want to thank you for your prayers for Gayle’s mom.   Although she is still very weak, she is doing better than a few months ago.  We are thankful that her sister, Charlene, is taking such good care of Mom.  Please also pray for Gayle’s Aunt Bonnie who recently lost her son.   This has been a time of great difficulty for the family.

In prayer meetings we have been studying of the book of Acts.  Last night we studied Acts 14 and saw how some towns accepted Paul’s teaching and the gospel and others rejected it, going as far as stoning him.  It is like that in our society today, too.  There are times when we present the Gospel to someone, and they reject it.  Other times, hearts are open.  That leads me to a man in our church, Aimé, who passed away last week.   Some members of our church attended one of the wakes set up by the family here in town.   Knowing that most of his family and visitors there were not Christians, I was able to share a gospel message from the Bible. We praise God that nearly 20 people prayed to accept Christ.  I don't know the sincerity of their hearts but I left my phone # and told them to call me for some follow up.  Please pray for God to work in the lives of these people.  Acts 13:47 – “For so hath the Lord commanded us saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.”

This is the month for summer camps.  Gayle and I both enjoyed our years at Camp Pamadeva in Hanover, PA.  Our teens here in San-Pedro are excited about a week of camp starting Sunday Aug 8.  Also, our ladies are planning a week starting Aug 22.  Our prayer is that during these weeks of camp God will use the teaching of His Word to change lives and encourage people in their everyday walk.

We had made plans to return to the USA for our State-side ministry this summer.  After praying about this, we believe it is not good to leave the ministries at this time.  Our plans now are to return sometime early in 2010. Please pray for our ministries.

Here are a few things we want to see go forward before we return:

1.  In May, we graduated 5 four-year students from the Bible Institute and gave 10 students their first-year certificate.  There is a lot of planning for the Bible Institute classes for next year
since we will have two different levels of classes being taught. Two different levels of study at the same time is a first for us.  A counsel of Africans has been put into place and teachers are being
lined up, so things are getting underway.

2.  At our new church in Sotref, one of the graduates from the 4 yr. program, Parfait, began working with me in June.  We share the preaching opportunities and enjoy visitation each week with others in the church.  He does not feel ready to take on the ministry by himself, so this time together will be beneficial.

Please pray with us concerning a project for a faithful servant of the Lord.  Pastor Emmanuel is teaching at the Bible Institute and asst. director of the ministries on the mission property.  He, his wife, and five children
have been living in 3 small rooms on the mission property.  Their 6th child will be born at the end of this August.  They are in desperate need of new housing.  For the last year they have been working at trying to build a small house, but funds have been limited.  He has the cement walls of the house done and is just now putting on a roof.  They still need the plywood for the ceilings, wooden doors, cement for the floors, plumbing, and electricity. Would you pray about this family’s need and perhaps give a gift this month to help them finish their house?  If God would lead you to help this faithful family, you can send your gift to Baptist Mid-Missions to the account of Steve King; mark it simply “building”.

Thanks you so much for your prayers and financial support to the ministry here.

Serving Christ together,

Steve and Gayle King
