February 2009 Prayer Letter

A note from Gayle in memory of Darla

The month of January was difficult for me; it had been one year since my sister Darla went home to be with the Lord. I kept myself busy with the ministry,
but memories of Darla kept dominating my thinking.

It was during our visit to Divo to encourage Bertin and Agnes TOUGNON in their new church plant, where I was encouraged in remembering the comfort that
God gives.

After the morning service, it was a joy to eat together with the church people at the home of Bertin and Agnes.

After everyone had gone, Agnes presented me with a gift - a beautiful turquoise African cloth. Then she began to wrap it around my head. According to the African culture, especially from her village, the symbolism of the cloth was to console someone who lost a very close family member. In covering the head with a new cloth, this gesture is to make one remember the good thoughts of the person who has passed and to help ease and forget the pain of the loss of the loved one.

As Agnes covered my head as a symbol of her love, I was reminded in the scriptures of God’s overflowing love. I know without a doubt that Darla is home with her loving Savior. Also, I am comforted because of 2 Corinthians 1:3-4a:

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all our tribulation…”

Your prayers and support are also an encouragement to us.

May God bless you!

Gayle
