Steve and Gayle King Serving Christ in the Ivory Coast, West Africa 01 BP 2152, San-Pedro 01 Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa
September 16, 2009
You may be wondering how are things here in Côte d’Ivoire. We are doing really fine, but are very busy. We have a number of projects of construction going forward, one a church and one is Pastor Emmanuel’s house.
Our Bible Institute opened its doors just a little over a week ago, so that has involved a lot of paperwork and processing of students, schedules and responsibilities. We praise God for seven sophomores and three freshman students. Three of these students accepted Christ in our first church plant here about ten years ago. The Cyber café/Christian bookstore/copy center of the institute will provide some incentive to our students to earn some income (there is no such thing as a part-time job here, unless a person works for himself or a missionary). Some will be involved in selling and publicity, earning a commission on the sales. God willing, this will give local financial support to the institute as well as to the students individually. All this takes more organization. Needles to say, Gayle is continually at the computer working on a document of some sort either for this, the Institute, or the ministries related to it.
As you may know, I am pastor of a church on the campus of our Institute. Preaching, teaching, mentoring, counseling is a focal point for Gayle and me. I do enjoy preaching and teaching, but more important is my role to train some younger men to continue after my departure. We praise God that one of our graduates, Parfait, has expressed the desire to work alongside of me in this local church. He and his wife Raouline are doing a great job! Even though Emmanuel is taking over more and more of the ministries at the Bible Institute, he has also expressed the desire to learn more about the pastoral end of the ministry. So he will soon be working closer with us in the church ministry at Sotref, too.
Gayle continues to work with the children and women. This Saturday, Sept 19 she will be meeting with and teaching the women from 5 different churches. She is also preparing notes for a ladies seminar at our church October 23 & 24. Please pray that God Word will change lives.
We appreciate so much your prayers for our ministry. As we seek to win and disciple people for Christ, we thank God for partners like you!
Hope to see you in 2010 as we return to the US for one year of stateside ministry.
