May 2008 - Ministry Update    

While Gayle was in Raleigh, NC for the memorial service for her sister, Darla, she talked with Heidi Brant, the daughter of Darla’s good friend.

Heidi was forced to take accumulated personal days at work (or lose them) and determined to use this time for the LORD. What a joy it was to have Heidi come and help us for two weeks.  Using her computer and organizational skills, she helped tremendously with the Bible Institute and other computer related projects.  She had already planned to teach the women, but was also sensitive to the needs of the people around her and ministered to others as well. Although Heidi has returned to the US, she continues to help by organizing our web site.   Thanks, Heidi! 

The youth of our church meet each Sunday after the service and then once a month on Friday night.  Two months ago we invited the youth from 4 other Baptist churches, and there were almost 100 in attendance.  They were so excited about being together! The churches have decided to continue the monthly youth rally.  Andy Messer and his church hosted the rally last month, and he quizzed them on John 1.  This month will be at our church again with quizzing on John 2.  It is good seeing the youth memorizing God’s Word, even if it is because they want to take home the trophy!

I am now teaching my final class on Spiritual Gifts.  Gayle finishes her course on Principles of Teaching this week.  The academic year 07-08 will end June 13. Everyone is looking forward to a break! 

Praise God for - 

- Decisions made for Christ during our outdoor evangelism in Divo, and here in San Pedro as a result of special events.
- Increase in our support amounts by a number of churches since the dollar exchange is very low.
- Special gifts given by various churches and individuals to help national pastors.  Here, when a pastor receives $20 to $30 a month from their local church, they are having a good month; but it is not enough to meet their needs.

Pray for –

- Divo - the church is progressing with Pastor Bertin (wife, Agnes), but the school administrator has asked them to leave the school where they have met for a year.  We found a half-acre lot with the foundation and walls of an unfinished house. It is in a residential area only 20 yards from a main road. Pray for Pastor Bertin and this work.  Pray for God’s guidance and provision for the funds needed. 
- Our mentoring of young men and women in the ministry, as well as, the Bible Institute students.
-  Wisdom for the Benjy Youth Center Ministries.  (The center shares the campus of the Bible Institute, and now we will be more involved in that ministry.)
